Christs New Homeland Africa
$18.95Add to cartIn June of 2015, five cardinals and forty-five bishops representing fifty African countries met in Accra, Ghana, to prepare for the October 2015 Synod on the Family.
In his opening remarks included in this volume Robert Cardinal Sarah encouraged the bishops of Africa to “speak with one voice” during the synod:
“I encourage you to speak with clarity and with one credible voice and with filial love of the Church. Be conscious of the mission of the Church; protect the sacredness of marriage which is now being attacked by all forms of ideologies that intend to destroy the family in Africa. Do not be afraid to stress the teaching of the Church on marriage.”
In a major six-page interview released during the same period in the French magazine Famille Chretienne, Cardinal Sarah said:
“At the synod next October we will address, I hope, the question of marriage in an entirely positive manner, seeking to promote the family and the values that it bears. The African bishops will act to support that which God asks of man concerning the family, and to receive that which the Church has always taught. . . . Why should we think that only the Western vision of man, of the world, of society is good, just, universal? The Church must fight to say no to this new colonization.”
These African pastors provide much food for thought and reflection about modern Western culture and our personal lives, as well as an introduction to the Synod. The title of the book comes from a phrase used by Blessed Pope Paul VI, which in our time beautifully expresses the universality of the Church and the increasing role played by African Church leaders. Among the contributing cardinals and bishops are Robert Cardinal Sarah, Francis Cardinal Arinze, Christian Cardinal Tumi, Theodore Cardinal Sarr, Archbishop Samuel Kleda, and more.”

Chronicles Of Faith
$14.95Add to cartA popular Anglican apologist, scholar, poet, novelist, and dramatist, C. S. Lewis never became Catholic. And yet a great number of Catholics have a profound love for Lewis and have been formed by his great works.
Chronicles of Faith: A Catholic Perspective on C. S. Lewis is a wonderful introduction, or re-introduction, to this outstanding literary and spiritual figure. Bishop Fintan Monahan guides the reader through the life and work of Lewis, from his childhood in Northern Ireland and his experiences of loss and war at a young age to his years as an academic in Oxford and his career as a world-renowned author.
In a unique and accessible way, Chronicles of Faith explores the twists and turns of Lewis’s spiritual journey, through which he was transformed from a young man of lost faith to a man of deep faith. This book also explains why Lewis’s writings, both fiction and spiritual, continue to resonate and inspire Catholics, and other Christians, today.

Confessions Of A Cafeteria Catholic
$16.95Add to cartOne day, philosopher Peter Kreeft reads an open letter published by a friend, Nat Whilk. He’s Catholic, but he sees the Church as unsteady, outdated, obsessive. As a challenge to the “True Believers”, Nat pens a twenty-point manifesto for “cafeteria Catholics”, who pass up certain Church teachings and scoop up others like a diner in a buffet line.”I find in [Catholicism] both much to accept and even love and also much to refuse and even despise”, he asserts. “If you insist on tying God to the Church, you will make me an atheist.”
Kreeft has an answer for Nat–one that spans over a hundred pages. The result is this book: a sharp, friendly, and funny debate between two honest thinkers trying to understand the Christian life. Nat “is the’cafeteria Catholic’, “writes Kreeft,”and I am the ‘eat all the food Mommy puts on your plate’ Catholic.” Taking on Nat’s manifesto point by point, the Boston College philosopher builds his case for a full-package Catholicism, addressing the themes of authority, love, freedom, conscience, sex, abortion, social justice, science, and more. “Our hopes differ”, he points out to his friend.”Your hope is in man; mine is in God.”
If, like Nat Whilk, you find yourself wondering why the Church asks for so much commitment, Confessions of a Cafeteria Catholic could be the book for you. This debate serves as a fun and accessible introduction to some of the knottiest aspects of Catholic doctrine. Readers of Peter Kreeft’s apologetic works and his Socrates Meets dialogues will enjoy the latest venture by one of the most celebrated contemporary Catholic writers.
